Getting to Grant County

Grant County is easy to reach at any time of year via Interstate Highway 10 and New Mexico Highway 90. Winter travelers may see snow in the higher elevations of the county, but snow rarely appears and even more rarely stays on these highways.

Travelers from Albuquerque and northern New Mexico can find Grant County by traveling south down Interstate Highway 25. South of Truth or Consequences, take New Mexico Highway 152 west into the Aldo Leopold Wilderness and Grant County via a winding mountain roadway. Winter travelers on Highway 152 often encounter snow, sometimes quite a lot of it.

Some portions of Highway 152 are not plowed at night or on weekends. Contact the Silver City - Grant County Chamber of Commerce to discuss travel conditions, or continue south on Interstate 25 to Hatch, NM, and an easy route onto Highway 90 toward Silver City.

Getting to Walnut Creek Cottages

When you arrive in Silver City, proceed west on Highway 180 from its intersection with Highway 90.

After turning West on 180, travel just two blocks and make a turn North on Little Walnut Rd. This road is next to the Long Johns Silver Restaurant.

Continue on this road for 9.3 miles. Five miles of this distance is on paved road. You will cross a cattle guard upon entering the Gila Forest, and the Forest Service's unpaved road starts just after entering the Gila Forest.

The unpaved road is Forest Road #506. Continue on the dirt road for approximately 4 miles, taking the left fork of the road any time the road branches.

You will start seeing Walnut Creek Cottage signs at the Wagon Wheel Road fork in the road ( don't turn right into the Wagon Wheel development: follow the direction indicated by the sign.

You will see the next sign as you enter the Private Property area. Our sign will be on the right side of the road. Follow the next two signs. You will see the last sign on the right before you start driving in the creek bed.

Proceed about 600 feet down the creek bed. Our drive is on the left side. You will see our round Walnut Creek Cottages sign at our drive way.
